Hambacher Schloss

Ever since the black-red-gold flag blew on the Kastanienberg near Neustadt in the Palatinate in May 1832, the Hambacher Schloss (Hambach Castle) has been the cradle of German democracy. 30,000 people took part in the Hambach Festival in 1832, waving their flags to head up to the castle to proclaim their demands for unity and freedom.
