Rescue operation on the Mediterranean documented by artist
The opening of the exhibition “Daniel Kempf-Seifried.Mission in the Mediterranean” will be held on May 30, 2018 at 7 pm in the Künstlerhaus of the KunstKulturQuartier Nürnberg. Reporting about refugees venturing the dangerous route from Africa and the Middle East mostly across the Mediterranean is accompanied by shattering images of capsized boats and drowned people.
In April 2017, Daniel Kempf-Seifried, a photographer from the Sea-Eye rescue vessel, traveled from Malta to the Libyan coast to document the trip. Wooden or inflatable boats crowded with people, improvised seats and berths for those rescued on board, as well as details of Sea-Eye rescue operations document the black and white photographs. The picture series presented from 31 May to 15 July 2018 presents the burdening situation on a completely overloaded rescue ship.
